How to Have a Sustainable Mother’s Day

This weekend is the perfect time to celebrate the special women in our lives, but it can also be an opportunity to honor the environment. Are you interested in doing something special for your own mom and Mother Earth? Check out our tips below and get ready to go green.

1. Surprise Her With a Farm Fresh Bouquet

We’re huge fans of beautiful blooms here at KGBF, but we also want to make eco-friendly choices and support regional farmers. We know many of you feel the same. If you’re having an assortment delivered, companies like Bouqs and Farm Girl Flowers make it a point to source from local communities and package their products sustainably. If you’re using a local florist, you can ask them about their policies, or even pick something up from your farmer’s market.

2. Give Her Something She Can Grow

The only thing better than a sustainable, long-lasting bouquet is something the recipient can plant in the earth! If your mom, grandma, or aunt has a green thumb, consider giving her a potted plant or wildflower seeds. It can be a fun activity the two of you can do together, and every time she looks at it, she’ll think of you.

3. Gift an Experience

We always remember the memories we create more than the products we use. Why not purchase outdoor concert tickets, or treat her to brunch on a patio somewhere? Maybe you could attend Shakespeare in the Park, or attend a drive-in movie. You could even plan ahead and plan a trip somewhere together for sometime in the future.

4. Send an Eco-Friendly Card

A lot of cards end up in the landfill, but there’s an easy way to combat this. Send your love digitally, or purchase a recyclable card from a local artist. If you’re into crafting, and enjoy putting together messages that will last, create your own work of art with sustainable or reused materials.

5. Wrap It Up With Care

If you have something that needs to be packaged, there are a ton of ways to get creative with it and help the planet. You can swap out wrapping paper for items like handkerchiefs or scarves, or go rustic with brown parcel paper and twine. You can use cloth bags, or give that old one sitting your closet a second life. Whatever you choose, both Mother Earth and your mother will thank you!
